Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)
About the Scheme
ICDS is a comprehensive welfare scheme launched by the Central Government in 1975. The main objective of the scheme is to ensure health, nutrition, and overall development of children aged 0-6 years, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and adolescent girls. In Kerala, this scheme is implemented through Anganwadis under the Women and Child Development Department.
Beneficiaries:
Children under 6 years of age
Pregnant women
Nursing mothers
Adolescent girls
Main Objectives:
Ensure physical, mental, social, and intellectual development of children aged 0–6 years.
Reduce malnutrition and diseases among children.
Improve the health status of pregnant and nursing mothers.
Prepare children for primary education.
